DIRECTOR

MACIEK HAMELA

Maciek Hamela is a film and radio producer, director, and scriptwriter. Born in Warsaw, he received a master’s degree in French literature from the Sorbonne University and studied film directing at École Internationale de Création Audiovisuelle et de Réalisation (EICAR). He directed and produced the feature-documentary In the Rearview, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival and TIFF and won main prizes at the Sheffield DocFest, Zurich Film Festival, and Hamburg FilmFest. | Source

PRODUCER

Anna has produced award-winning documentaries and feature films with directors such as Mantas Kvedaravicius, Vitaliy Manskiy, Oleh Sentsov, and Akhtem Seitablaev, which have premiered at Berlinale, PÖFF, TIFF, IDFA, KVIFF, OIFF, et al. She also provided film production services on location in Ukraine for the Golden Globe–awarded Indian action drama RRR (2022), directed by S.S. Rajamouli. Anna’s main goal is to drive forward social change projects that view contemporary issues through a critical lens. Anna is involved in the development of the documentary film project Crimea, 5 AM by Dmytro Kostiumynskyi, which uncovers stories of the wives of detained Crimean Tatars, who have been living under the Russian occupation, as well as the documentary film project MEMO ’94 by Kornii Hrytsiuk, which investigates the threat of the world’s nuclear weapons and presents the key historical events of the past thirty years in Ukraine through the prism of the Budapest Memorandum. Based in Toronto, Anna also works on building the Ukrainian film community in Canada. She organizes film networking events aiming at creating the best platform for emerging and experienced Ukrainian filmmakers in Canada, to help them to get into the mainstream film industry and continue their professional development.

ANNA PALENCHUK

Anna Palenchuk was born in Kyiv in 1983. She received an MA in political science from the Kyiv Shevchenko National University and completed postgraduate studies in production at the New York Film Academy and in scriptwriting at the Vancouver Film School. In 2010 Anna founded the 435 FILMS production company in Ukraine, and since then she has spearheaded the company’s film and cross-media projects, with strong social messaging on issues of justice, human rights, the liberation of Ukrainian regions occupied by Russia, and the preservation of Ukrainian heritage.
